Happy New Years my beautiful friends!
This year I decided to aim my goals towards personal growth. I hope by accomplishing these I can reduce some unnecessary stress I harbor and change my life for the better. I left them as more of a big picture I am striving towards rather than a step by step plan on purpose.
Although I am not including some other detailed personal goals on here, I wanted to put my top goals out in the universe to share. Having only 7 goals to work on actually helps me feel less overwhelmed in contrast to the long lists of goals I have written the previous years.
So here are the top 7 goals I am working towards in 2019:
- Go the first hour of every morning with no phone. It is a habit of mine now to not only check my phone every morning but to stay on it in bed to “wake me up”. It is so much more refreshing when you wake up at your own pace. No screens or harsh lighting. In a technological world, this task goes along with the common goal of Being Present which is something I am always actively working on. Less phone in 2019. More peaceful mornings of reflection and novels at bedtime.
- Read a new book every month. At least 12 books total for 2019. Reading is one of my favorite pass times. 2018 I was bad about reading, especially during school semesters. I only read 7 books last year, so in 2019 I am really pushing to make more time for them.
- Simplify my life. I have always kept the rule “quality over quantity” close to heart. The less stuff I own the more joy it brings me. Downsizing has been a huge task I work on in my free time. Whether it’s getting rid of old clothes or the daunting task of sorting through memorabilia, it gets overwhelming. I stand firmly by the “collect moments, not things” quote. Also, having fewer things will be a plus when I move out!
- Stay active outdoors. Nothing makes me happier than a beautiful hike or bike ride! No hustle and bustle, just nature and my thoughts. It’s amazing how a nice walk in the evening can boost your mood, just like that.
- Build new and strengthen old friendships. I found it hard to keep in touch with people when I was stressed at school. On top of that, I can seem unavailable for meeting new friends without even realizing it! News flash (@ me ), it takes actual work to form bonds. So in 2019, I want to hold and nurture my existing friendships while at the same time work hard at being open to new ones.
- Become intermediate in a foreign language. One of my all-time favorite goals. I love learning new languages and I try to practice every day. The languages I dabble with are French, German, and Spanish. I listen to language podcasts, create flashcards, and read books on all three languages. I am at beginner level in all of them currently (maybe because I think that learning 3 at a time is somehow efficient lol). So in 2019, I’m working towards staying consistent at my lessons for at least one language. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I can fully understand conversations in another language and communicate back. Whether it’ll be French, German, or Spanish, I am not sure yet! Stay tuned.
- Give back. Give back to the Earth, give back to my friends and family, give back to the community. One thing I plan to do is to make beach cleanups a fun event with my boyfriend and friends. My goal is to dedicate a few hours every month to helping others and aim to make this Earth a better place.
There you have it. My top 7 goals for 2019. My goals this year feel really good. I hope some of my goals this year inspired you to write down some personal goals of your own. Can’t wait to look back on this and see all of them accomplished!
LET’S DO THIS.
